SPG Hit 600th Recorded Caving Event
By Jonathan Beard

Congratulations, SPG!  On Thursday February 26th 2009, a milestone just happened along without much notice.  When Roy Gold, BJ Gray, Eric Hertzler, Gabe Rodgers and I guided two groups of Nixa High School students through Breakdown Cave, it happened to be the 600th recorded caving event day involving SPG members since its creation in March 2006.
How does it all break down? In those 600 reported events, there have been:
107 trips in which the primary purpose was to survey caves.  (members been involved with mapping 72 different caves so far!)
86 trips in which the primary purpose was cave restoration or cleanup.
111 trips in which the primary purpose was public outreach education (guided field trips to caves)
46 trips in which the primary purpose was photography or photodocumentation.
48 trips in which the primary purpose was cave documentation, GPS locating, cave research and water quality testing.
51 trips in which the primary purpose was cave gate installation, repair, monitoring or maintenance.
28 trips in which the primary purpose was to bio inventory caves.
123 trips in which the primary purpose was recreational.
Again, congratulations!  Without the participation of all of its members, it would not be as good as it is.
