|
Much of March 2007 was spent conducting public outreach education. Melvin Johnson directed educational visits for 5th grade elementary students to Giboney Cave in Doling Park on March 1st, others on March 4th, and Jon Beard, Evan Christiansen and Gabe Rodgers led Troop 175, a Topeka, KS boy scout troop through an educational trip through Breakdown Cave in Christian County. Jon Beard, Bill Heim and Jack Rosenkoetter led a group of master naturalists through Crystal Caverns in Barry County, a cave leased by the MCKC. SPG members were also involved with the continuing survey of Kiesewetter Cave of Pulaski County, mapping the 87 Room and a crawlway leading to it. Bob Taylor continued his mapping of Lowell Cave in Wright County, assisted by SPG members Roy Gold and Charley Young. Eric Hertzler did some mapping and reconnaisance work in Camden County, assisted by Christen Stewart of LOG and SPG’s Jason Hardinger. Bob Taylor also continued the mapping project in Smallin Cave of Christian County by mapping some of the Jeff section of the cave. He was assisted by Roy Gold and Charley Young. Jon Beard, Evan Christiansen and Jack Rosenkoetter attempted to reach the Bretz Passage to do some mapping there, but the water levels were too high. |
