Springfield Plateau Grotto Caving Trips May 2007 |

During May 3rd, 4th and 5th, Melvin Johnson coordinated the repair of a recently vandalized cave gate at Ritter Cave in Greene County as well as educational tours of the cave of the Wonders of Wildlife Conservation School, with help on the 5th by Jon Beard and park board employee Scott Hoogman.
On the 6th, Kasi Johnson and Gabe Rodgers visited Fitzpatrick Cave and the entrance to Breakdown Cave in Christian County.
Michael Carter, Roy Gold, Max White, Jeff and Charley Young were hosted by cave manager Chris Gertson in a photo trip to Talking Rocks Cavern in Stone County on May 15th.
On the 18th, Jon Beard and Kasi Johnson assisted Dr. Dave Ashley and his students in a bristly cave crayfish study in Smallin and Sonrise Caves.
On the MSS weekend on the 19th, Roy Gold and Bob Taylor did some reconnaisance in Pulaski County, finding and GPSing Western Turkey Cave, Hanley Cave and Little Hanley Cave. While that was going on, Michael Carter was helping with the Pittman Cave survey and bio inventory being conducted by several MSS and CRF members. Jon Beard, meanwhile, was a part of a group of cavers from around the state in the cleanup and restoration of Onyx Cave, also in Pulaski County. Trash and graffiti were removed.
On the 21st, Dr. Doug Gouzie was part of a group that visited Fitton Cave of Arkansas to study cave sediments. Future detailed mapping and geologic study are planned. Lastly, Jon Beard, Roy Gold, Kasi Johnson, Charley Rey and friend Anita Baughman, Gabe Rodgers and Charley Young tested water samples and cleaned graffiti and trash from Fry Creek Cave in Wright County. |
